Roblox low FPS, lag or stuttering: how to fix it
In Roblox, every experience is made by a different creator: one runs smooth, another is heavy on the same PC. And the game comes capped at 60 FPS until you change it. Start by separating connection lag from PC lag.
Guide written by the Rise team. The steps work with or without Rise; the facts about the game come from the sources at the end of the page, with the date we checked them.

Short answer
Roblox comes capped at 60 FPS. On Windows, you can raise it up to 240 with the Maximum Frame Rate setting, with no external program. If FPS is low, switch Graphics Mode to Manual and lower Graphics Quality. If other players "teleport", the problem is the connection, not the PC.
First, find out what is holding you back
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| FPS stuck at 60 on a 144 Hz monitor | Roblox’s default cap is 60 FPS[5] | Raise Maximum Frame Rate in the settings, up to 240 (FPS cap section)[3] |
| Choppy, stuttering image | Graphics quality too high for the PC[1] | Graphics Mode on Manual and a lower Graphics Quality (Graphics section)[2] |
| Other players teleporting, actions lagging | Slow or unstable connection to Roblox[1] | Check your internet; lowering graphics doesn’t fix network lag[1] |
| One experience stutters and others don’t | The load comes from that experience’s own content | Compare with another experience at the same time of day |
| Still slow even at the lowest settings | Other heavy programs open, or PC below the recommended specs[1] | Close heavy apps and check the requirements (Requirements section)[6] |

How to see your FPS in Roblox
Inside an experience, Shift + F5 shows a summary with FPS. Ctrl + Alt + F7 opens a bar with memory, CPU and GPU, and F9 opens the Developer Console, with memory and network. Measure in the same experience, before and after each change.
FPS cap: Maximum Frame Rate
Since May 2024, Roblox on Windows has an official setting to go past 60 FPS, with no external program. The values are Default (60, not your monitor’s refresh rate), 60, 120, 144 and 240.
- Inside an experience, press Esc and open Settings.
- Under Maximum Frame Rate, pick the value closest to your monitor’s refresh rate, up to 240.
- Go back to the game and check your FPS with Shift + F5.
Roblox doesn’t officially offer more than 240. The team explains that the game’s physics runs at 240 Hz and that there are known issues above that.
Graphics quality on Manual
- Inside the experience, press Esc and open Settings.
- Switch Graphics Mode from Automatic to Manual.
- Move Graphics Quality to the left, one step at a time, and check your FPS at each step.
- If it doesn’t improve, close the heavy apps open alongside the game.
According to Roblox support, lower graphics take detail out of the image but make your PC work less. If even that doesn’t help, support says it may be time to play on a more powerful device.
FPS unlockers and FastFlags: what changed
Before the official setting, lots of people used an "FPS unlocker". Roblox explains that these programs change an internal client flag that was never meant for public use and can change without notice, and it recommends using the in-game setting.
Since September 29, 2025, the client only accepts local FastFlags (the ClientAppSettings.json file) from an allowlist, with options like texture quality, MSAA, grass distance and the graphics API. According to the announcement, flags outside the list are simply ignored, with no penalty. In practice, flag packs from outside the list no longer have any effect.
What your PC needs
Roblox asks for 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a graphics card with DirectX 10 or newer, a 1.6 GHz or faster processor from 2005 or later, 1 GB of RAM and 300 MB of storage space. For the best performance, support recommends a computer less than 5 years old with a dedicated graphics card, or a laptop less than 3 years old. The recommended internet speed is 4 to 8 Mbps for one person in the home.
What Rise does in Roblox
Everything here shows what changes before you apply it.
- FPS cap and qualityWrites to GlobalBasicSettings_13.xml, the file where Roblox stores the settings menu: raises Maximum Frame Rate up to your monitor’s refresh rate, at most 240, and sets the graphics level to manual, based on your goal. Saves the previous file and goes back in one click.Games › Roblox · Rise Premium

What Rise does not do in Roblox
- Doesn’t use FastFlags or an FPS unlocker.
- Doesn’t inject anything into Roblox and doesn’t mess with the client.
- Doesn’t make a heavy experience light: its content depends on whoever made it.
- Doesn’t improve your internet’s route to the server.
- Doesn’t promise an FPS number: measure before and after on your PC.
Frequently asked questions
How do I increase FPS in Roblox?
Measure with Shift + F5. In Settings, raise Maximum Frame Rate to your monitor’s refresh rate and, if FPS is low, switch Graphics Mode to Manual and lower Graphics Quality. Close heavy apps running alongside the game.
How do I remove the 60 FPS cap in Roblox?
On Windows, press Esc inside an experience, open Settings and pick 120, 144 or 240 under Maximum Frame Rate. It’s been the official setting since 2024, with no external program. The default is 60, even with a faster monitor.
Can an FPS unlocker get you banned in Roblox?
Roblox recommends using the official Maximum Frame Rate setting, up to 240, instead of an external program: an unlocker changes an internal client flag that can stop working without notice. As for FastFlags, the 2025 announcement says flags outside the allowlist are simply ignored, with no penalty.
Do FastFlags still work in Roblox?
Only the ones on the allowlist, since September 29, 2025: texture quality, MSAA, grass distance, DPI scaling, the graphics API and a few more. Any other flag in ClientAppSettings.json is ignored by the client.
Why does Roblox lag in one experience and not another?
Every experience is made by a different creator, with its own maps, effects and scripts. The same PC can run smooth in one and struggle in another. Compare both at the same time of day with Shift + F5.
Can Roblox run on a low-end PC?
The minimum is low: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a graphics card with DirectX 10, a 1.6 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM. For the best performance, Roblox recommends a computer less than 5 years old with a dedicated card, or a laptop less than 3. On a weaker PC, use Manual Graphics Mode with low quality.
Is it internet lag or low FPS in Roblox?
If other players teleport and your actions take a while, it’s the connection. If the image stutters, it’s the PC or the graphics quality. Roblox support treats the two cases separately: lowering graphics only helps with the second.
