Are .bat and .reg tweak packs safe? Compared with an optimizer
Packs of .bat, .cmd, .ps1 and .reg files are sold in digital-product stores, on Discord and on YouTube with the promise of more FPS. They may even help, but you run them as administrator without seeing, item by item, what changes or how to go back.
This comparison was written by the Rise team, which has a stake in it. Data about the other products comes from their official pages, with the link and the date we checked it. Prices and features change: check the source before you decide.
Short answer
A .bat or .reg pack changes Windows all at once, as administrator, and you can only go back if the seller ships a revert script or if you back up the registry first, as Microsoft recommends. An optimizer like Rise shows each change before applying it, keeps the previous value, reverts each one in one click and measures before and after.
Side by side
| What to compare | Rise | Tweak pack (.bat / .reg) |
|---|---|---|
| Do you see what changes first? | Yes: Yes: each optimization shows what changes and when it helps, and only applies with your click | Partly: Only by reading the file; it usually runs everything at once |
| How to undo | Yes: Each optimization keeps the previous value and reverts in one click; Revert all undoes them all at once | Partly: Depends on the seller shipping a revert script; Microsoft recommends backing up the registry before editing it[1] |
| Measure the result | Yes: Rise Benchmark: same 3D scene before and after, with average FPS, 1% low and stutters | No: The script does not measure; that is up to you |
| Windows protections | Turning off Defender, VBS or mitigations never happens on its own: it lives in Advanced, with the risk explained and your consent | Partly: Depends on the pack; read what it turns off before running it |
| Updates | Gets updates through the app itself | Depends on the seller |
| Refund | 7 calendar days from the first purchase, full amount, no reason needed | Depends on the seller and the store where you bought it |

Rise makes more sense if
- You want to know what each change does before it is applied.
- You want to go back in one click, change by change or all at once.
- You want to measure whether FPS and stutters really improved.
- You do not want to turn off Windows protections without knowing the risk.
Tweak pack (.bat and .reg) makes more sense if
- You understand what each line of the script does and know how to undo it yourself.
- You backed up the registry and created a restore point before running it.
- You only want one specific change that you already know.
Before running any pack
- Open the .bat or .reg file in a text editor and read what it changes. Be wary of a file that comes compiled or obfuscated.
- Export the registry keys that will be changed, or make a full backup, as Microsoft recommends.
- Create a Windows restore point.
- Check whether the pack turns off Windows Defender, the firewall, Windows Update or CPU protections.
- Measure before and after with the same scenario. Without a measurement, you cannot tell whether it helped.
Why undoing matters
A Windows tweak that helps one PC can make another worse: an aggressive power plan heats up a laptop, and a disabled service can break Wi-Fi or the printer. Without a simple way back, "optimized" turns into a Windows reinstall. That is why, in Rise, every optimization keeps the previous value and reverts in one click, and if an optimization does not confirm after it is applied, Rise undoes it on its own.
Frequently asked questions
Are .bat tweak packs safe?
It depends on what they do. The file runs as administrator and can change the registry, services and Windows protections all at once. Read the file first, back up the registry, create a restore point and check whether it turns off any protection.
How do I undo a .reg pack?
If you exported the keys first, import the backup. If the seller shipped a revert script, run it. Without either, the way back is a Windows restore point, when one exists.
Does Rise use .bat or .reg files?
It does not hand you a loose file to run. Each optimization is applied by the app after you review it, keeps the previous value and reverts in one click, one by one or all at once with Revert all.
Can I get a refund for a pack?
It depends on the seller’s policy and the store where you bought it. With Rise, it is 7 calendar days from your first purchase, full amount.
