Razer Cortex alternative: Rise vs Razer Cortex, which one to use for gaming?

Razer Cortex is free and works mostly at the moment you play: it pauses processes and tunes the graphics of some games. Rise is paid and works on the whole PC, with measurement before and after.

This comparison was written by the Rise team, which has a stake in it. Data about the other products comes from their official pages, with the link and the date we checked it. Prices and features change: check the source before you decide.

Short answer

Razer Cortex is free: Game Booster pauses processes while you play and Booster Prime tunes the graphics of games like Fortnite, VALORANT and Apex, with a revert button. Rise is paid, tunes Windows, the graphics card, the network and your peripherals, shows each change before applying it, undoes each one in one click and measures before and after with its own Benchmark.

Rise makes more sense if

  • You want to tune the whole PC, not only the moment the game opens.
  • You want to see, before applying, what each change does and why.
  • You want the real result measured on your PC, not a prediction.
  • You play FiveM, CS2 or Rainbow Six, which have a video preset in Rise.

Razer Cortex makes more sense if

  • You do not want to pay anything.
  • You only want to pause programs while you play and tune the graphics of a supported game.
  • You already use Razer peripherals and the brand’s ecosystem.

The difference in one line

Razer Cortex acts when the game opens: it pauses what runs in the background and, with Booster Prime, picks the game’s graphics settings to reach a target FPS. Rise starts earlier: it reads the PC, shows what holds performance back (power plan, heavy programs, Windows, graphics card and network settings) and fixes it after you review the changes.

A prediction is not a measurement

Booster Prime estimates FPS before applying a setting. That helps you pick graphics, but it is a prediction. The Rise Benchmark runs the same 3D scene before and after the optimizations and compares score, average FPS, 1% low and stutters measured on your own computer.

Frequently asked questions

Does Razer Cortex work?

It does what it says: Game Booster pauses processes and prioritizes the game, and Booster Prime tunes the graphics of some games. How much that changes your FPS depends on the PC. The way to know is to measure the same scenario before and after.

Is Razer Cortex free?

Yes. Razer’s software page calls Cortex free, and no Cortex page shows a paid plan (checked on November 7, 2026). Rise is paid, with 7 days to back out with a full refund on your first purchase.

What is a good Razer Cortex alternative?

If you only care about graphics, the app from your graphics card maker (NVIDIA App or AMD Software) tunes game settings. If you want the whole PC tuned, each change explained and undone in one click, and the result measured before and after, Rise does that as a paid app.

Can I use Razer Cortex and Rise together?

We do not recommend it. Both pause processes and change the game’s priority, and two programs doing that at the same time get in the way of undoing changes and of measuring. Pick one and measure.

Does Rise tune in-game graphics?

On Rise Premium, yes, for the games with a video preset (like CS2, VALORANT, Fortnite and FiveM). Rise keeps the settings you had and goes back to them in one click.
